So Many Passwords....Where Do They Go?
Seriously, how can you remember them all and how do you expect someone else to?
As a fiduciary for other people, I have learned a lot of what I didn’t know and that has helped me be better not only for my new clients but also for my decision makers/back-ups for my business.
Passwords are a tricky thing. You need them for everything it seems like nowadays and you are supposed to remember them all. How can you do that without sticky notes or keeping them on your device in the case that it is stolen, damaged, etc.?
With some of my business clients I have recommended a strong password “vault” so to speak. I encourage you to do your research. With the one that I chose, I have a ton of built in security but can also limit who I choose to have access to certain passwords, files, etc.
For my clients, I have passwords for them that only I have access to and limit which ones that my business backup has. For my personal info, I have my driver’s license info, car title info, etc. assigned to one decision maker and other information assigned to the backup.
Why do this? My trusty TV recently went out to pasture and I had to get a new one. The smart TV has to be setup with it’s own login and then you add your apps which each have separate logins, etc. you can imagine the nightmare scenario that you are creating for your loved ones.
In this service, I also recently cleaned up my phone and added business photos and personal photos that I wanted “safe” but didn’t want to necessarily share on Facebook or other social media. Can you imagine for many people who share their lives on social media and no longer have the traditional photo albums what they would do if their social media was hacked and they lost all of their photos?
So, what happens to my password/file “vault” when I die or more likely become incapacitated before I die? The way that I have this set up, my backups and decision makers will have everything they need to eventually shut everything down. From my license plate info for the car to my insurance policy info and logins for the apps I subscribe to and the all important logins for my phone and other devices, they can begin shutting them down as soon as they want to. This saves time and energy as well as not leaving too much of a mess.
What would happen to your loved ones if you were to pass away? How would they figure out how to stop the automatic Amazon deliveries or get access to other important info?
This is a good rainy day project. We are getting some storms soon. Make the best of the time and save those you care about time as well as be able to help you if they need to access information for you quickly.
Growing up isn’t as fun as we thought it would be as kids, is it?
